New Testo Non Sight Glass Refrigeration Manifolds

Friday, March 14, 2014

Testo is well known in the HVAC industry for our fantastic range of digital refrigeration manifolds. Until very recently many refrigerant manifolds have featured a built-in sight glass, enabling the engineer to observe the flow and condition of the refrigerant. This is a useful additional feature, although in no way is it an essential requirement.

However due to a change in recommended standards from the Institute of Refrigeration (IOR) – Testo Limited has expanded our already well regarded range of refrigerant manifolds to offer Non Sight Glass variants of both the Testo 557 and the Testo 570 digital manifolds.

In response to a very small number of incidents where the incorrect use of refrigerant gauges has led to sight glass failure, the Institute of Refrigeration (IOR) has recommended that manifolds with sight glasses should not be used for strength or pressure testing.

It is important to mention that Testo manifolds have never had a recorded incident of a sight glass failure, indeed, under test conditions it proved impossible to break a testo sight glass even at pressures of over 400 bar! However, in response to increased demand from companies requesting non-sight glass manifolds and the IOR guidelines, Testo are pleased to be able to announce that the Testo 557 and 570 manifolds are now available without the sight glass option.
